Fall Back, Kick Back: Halloween Weekend Comes With an Extra Hour
October 29, 2026 | JR Group
Halloween Comes With a Bonus Hour
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and there's one more treat waiting for us after the candy is gone.
At 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, daylight saving time ends and the clocks fall back one hour.
That means an extra hour overnight for sorting candy, scrubbing off face paint, recovering from Halloween festivities, or our personal favorite: sleeping in.
We'll take it!
A Few Things to Know
When: Sunday, November 1, at 2 a.m.
What happens: The clocks turn back to 1 a.m.
What adjusts automatically: Most phones, computers, and smart devices.
What needs a little help: Your oven, microwave, car clock, and that one clock nobody remembers how to change.
The catch? Sunday sunset in Seattle arrives around 4:51 p.m. Hello, dark evenings!
Five Quick Home Checks While You're At It
Since we're already adjusting the clocks, it's the perfect excuse to give the house a little attention before the darker, wetter months settle in.
Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Check the batteries on models with replaceable batteries and make sure the alarms haven't reached their replacement dates.
Check your outdoor lighting. Porch lights, walkways, and driveways become especially important when the sun sets before dinner. Bonus points for motion sensors!
Reset your timers. Outdoor lights, smart plugs, and older programmable devices might need a little schedule adjustment.
Check your furnace filter. Heating season is officially here. See if your filter is due for a replacement.
Give the gutters a glance. Falling leaves and November rain aren't the best combination. Make sure water has a clear path away from your home.
From Our Home to Yours
Whether you're out trick-or-treating, handing out candy, or curled up with a scary movie, we hope you have a wonderful Halloween weekend.
And whatever you do with that extra hour, enjoy it. Around here, we vote for a little more sleep!
